About the SOV
Founded in 1990, the midwifery education partnership Samenwerkende Opleidingen Verloskunde (SOV) aims to protect the mutual and external interests of the following Dutch midwifery academies and their associated programmes:
The mutual protection of interests focuses, among other things, on cooperation in the fields of student application and selection. This is concretely manifested on the joint website www.verloskundige.info, where prospective students can find more information on open days, the selection procedure and admission criteria.
The external protection of interests focuses in particular on common educational interests in relation to
- the government, including the ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport and of Education, Culture and Science
- project groups derived from these ministries, such as the Society promoting Orthomolecular Medicine (MOBG) and Council for Healthcare Professions and Programmes (CBOG)
- organisations like the Royal Dutch Organisation of Midwives (KNOV), Dutch association for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (NVOG), Dutch Association of General Practitioners (LHV), the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL), the HBO council, the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) and the IB-Groep
- international bodies such as International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Community and the Benelux.
The SOV is also the initiator of Midwifery Knowledge Portal ,the digital knowledge midwifery research platform in the Netherlands.
