Admission criteria
To be admitted to the selection procedure for the midwifery programmes you must have good command of written and oral Dutch (national exam NT2-II), and one of the following diplomas.
•HAVO diploma or equivalent, including biology and chemistry.
- ‘Natuur & Gezondheid’ or ‘Natuur & Techniek’ profiles, including biology
- HAVO–CM or HAVO–EM profiles, including biology and chemistry, and supplemented with mathematics A or B
•VWO diploma, include biology 1 and 2 and chemistry
•HBO/MBO diploma. These qualify candidates for admission under the Higher Education and Scientific Research Act (WHW). However, HAVO-level biology 1 and chemistry 1 and a good command English (the reading includes English-language literature) are important conditions to successfully complete the programme. In the event of deficiencies, we therefore recommend that you reach a sufficient biology and chemistry level by taking the HAVO national exam, for example at the Open Universieit Nederland (http://www.ou.nl/voorbereidingscursussen).
Non-Dutch diplomas will be weighed and assessed by the relevant HBO institute, which then gives a binding recommendation on admission. If your diploma is approved, you must register via Studielink.
If you are 21 or older and do not meet the prior education requirements, you qualify for an admissions exam. You can apply via Studielink (select the option ‘niet voldoen aan de voorwaarden’, then ‘21+’). Note, however, that this arrangement only applies to the Rotterdam midwifery Academy.
Recognition of non-Dutch midwifery diplomas
Non Dutch midwifery diplomas obtained in or outside the European Union are handled by the Registration of and Information for Healthcare Professionals (RIBIZ, http://www.ribiz.nl/)
