Selection procedure
The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has changed the terms of enrolment on courses with supplementary requirements. These terms will also apply to midwives from the start of the academic year of 2012-2013. The guideline states that enrolment via Studielink should take place by 15 January 2012 and the final result of the selection will be announced before 15 April 2012.
The selection procedure for the 2012-2013 academic year is carried out in accordance with the Higher Education and Scientific Education Act (WHW). The application deadline for admission from September 2012 is 15 January 2012.
General: Primary criteria
If you satisfy the prior education requirements set out in Chapter 7: Admission requirements of the WHW, you can apply for the programme via Studielink. Please note that you must satisfy all admission criteria BEFORE starting the programme: none of the programmes allocate places conditional on rectifying outstanding deficiencies (e.g. HAVO-level chemistry and/or biology subcertificates). We would also like to emphasise that a good command of both written and oral Dutch is a requirement (minimum level: national exam NT2-II).
Follow-up procedure: Secondary criteria
Selection:
For the academic year 2012-2013, all applicants (prospective students) whose previous education meets the required standard will be allowed to progress to the selection procedure. There are two rounds in the selection procedure.
A written assignment has been scheduled for all applicants for programmes in obstetrics on Saturday 4 February 2012. This first round will take place at the location where your chosen study programme will be taught - i.e. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Maastricht or Groningen. The programme will provide you with more information about this day.
The grade awarded for this assignment is valid for one application year only, which means that if you make another application in the future you will need to repeat the whole selection procedure. The programme also requires you to provide proof of identification to take part in the selection day.
Applicants with the highest grade, awarded for the written assignment, will be put forward to the second round of the admissions procedure for the relevant study programme. This second rount will take place between 12 and 30 march 2012. More information about this round of the selection procedure will be issued by the programme.
Only a limited number of places are available on these study programmes. Candidates who have the highest scores following the interview will be able to participate in the programme. In the event of two students scoring the same, lots will be drawn to decide who will be admitted if necessary. A total of 190 places are available within all the courses. This means that only around one applicant in three will be allocated a place.
HBV regulation
For information on the hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination procedure (HbsAg), please refer to the website of the academy where you want to study. You are obliged to fully cooperate in the HBV procedure. Before the start of the programme you must have provided the academy with one of the following:
• the results of a recent HBV blood test (screening not older than three months) which demonstrates that you are not a carrier, OR
• official documents stating your immune status after full vaccination.
Note that if you do not submit the above information you will NOT be admitted to the programme. The follow-up HBV vaccinations start directly after you begin the programme.
